CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) — People from 14 states traveled to Iowa to compete in special tournaments at the Field of Dreams.

But, unlike most visitors to the filming site, they weren’t interested in playing baseball: they were playing cornhole.

The Dream Team Invitational began qualifying on August 26, with registration open to anyone interested. It ends tomorrow and the 64 qualified teams are preparing to receive some sort of cash prize. Winners will take home $5,000.

The Corny Forty Classic was also played on August 27. The winner received a reward which included an overnight stay at the Field of Dream Farm House, with their expenses paid for travel to the film site, guided tours inside the house, film site clothing , and more.

Organizers said these tournaments help bring the sport back to its roots. American Cornhole Organization founder Frank Geers said

“Honestly, most of our tournaments are indoors, we go to convention centers and large sports complexes. So it’s a bit of a different experience for us because the players are here to battle the elements. It’s a bit windy, hot, sweaty,” said Frank Greers, founder of the American Cornhole Organization. “But, that’s what cornhole is, man. It’s a tailgate game to begin with, and that’s what makes it so fun to be here.

The Dream Team Invitational will resume on Sunday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Organizers say they plan to return next year in late August.
