The Newport Live Community Sports and Wellbeing team launched free Pop Up Sport events for children, youth and families last summer, and this year’s Pop Up Sport events are expected to be a huge one again. hit. Community-focused family events will take place during the school holidays, alongside the popular Sport in the Park series and other holiday activities for children, which cover both sports and the arts.
The series of events will be held in Newport’s parks and open spaces with a wide range of free fun sports and physical activities offered to children aged 3-14. Healthy snacks, fruit and water will be provided, supporting families in Newport during the holidays as part of the National Campaign Against Holiday Hunger.
“We piloted our FREE pop-up sporting events last year following the relaxation of COVID regulations and rules and they have proven to be a great success. By using local green spaces and school facilities, we have been able to remove many barriers to sport and physical activity participation for children and families. We are also able to fight holiday hunger by providing children with healthy packed lunches, fruit and water while being active and having fun with family and friends. explained Chloe Powton, Community Sport and Physical Activity Development Manager. The Pop Up Sport events perfectly complement Newport Lives’ already ambitious plans for the summer, made possible by funding from the Welsh Government’s Summer of Fun fund.
