FREE supervised sporting activities at Hindpool Urban Park

[A] A NEW weekly physical activity session for adolescents will be launched in May to offer young people aged 10 to 16 many sports activities.

Barrow ParkLives, is an initiative of Barrow AFC Community & Cumbria County Council which aims to offer different sports and activities at Hindpool Urban Park.

From football to rugby to boxing, FREE activities will promote physical activity and give younger children the opportunity to try new sports.

Barrow ParkLives begins Monday May 14 and runs every Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. until mid-July.

Craig Rutherford, Barrow AFC, said: “We want to bring sport and physical activity to the doors of young people in local communities.

“The relaxation area is the perfect place to bring young people together – not only is the activity free, but it takes place in a familiar environment. “

“We look forward to ParkLives and hope this will have a positive impact on Hindpool and hopefully motivate more young people to lead active lives. “

All sessions will be led by qualified coaches who will also be able to refer young people to local clubs.

Emma Broadbent, community development officer; “We have chosen the sports that will take place in Hindpool Urban Park because it is easily accessible to young people in the area. We have also tried to incorporate a range of sports which are all offered thanks to the goodwill of the coaches in the local community who donate their time to help and promote their club.

“ParkLives’ goal is to use sport to help young people become healthier, safer and more successful. We use sport to empower young people to initiate a cycle of positive change in their own lives that resonates in their communities. “
