WADA Announces Candidates for 2023 National Anti-Doping Organization Expert Advisory Group Elections

Following communications from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) of June 15, 2022 and On July 19, 2022 calling for interested candidates for WADA’s upcoming National Anti-Doping Organization (NADO) Expert Advisory Group elections for 2023, we are pleased to announce that we have received 22 eligible nominations for the ten seats. .

WADA President Witold Bańka said, “WADA’s NADO Expert Advisory Group has always played a very important role for WADA and clean sport. Based on recent governance reforms approved by the WADA Foundation Board, the Advisory Group will now be elected and NADOs will be represented on the This is a great step forward in improving the voice of national anti-doping organizations within WADA and in strengthening the governance of the Agency.

The 22 candidates are listed below in alphabetical order by name (by region). Each of the five regions will have its own election to each elect two candidates to the ten-member NADO Expert Advisory Group.

Eligibility

Applicants had to meet the eligibility criteria as stated in Article 4 of the NADO WADA Expert Advisory Panel Election Procedure. These included: be employed at the executive level by an eligible NADO or serve as a member of the supervisory body of an eligible NADO and not be involved in the management or operations of an international federation, national federation , major events organization, National Olympic Committee, National Paralympic Committee Committee or government department responsible for sport or anti-doping. In addition, the NADO nominating a candidate had to meet the eligibility criteria, as set out in article 3 of the election procedure. The 22 candidates listed above were reviewed and confirmed by the scrutineer for elections, while two other candidates were declared ineligible based on the eligibility criteria.

To be eligible to vote in the election, all NADOs must meet the same criteria as a NADO nominating a candidate. All NADOs were notified of the list of candidates on September 30, 2022 and all eligible NADOs will be contacted to confirm whether they wish to vote in the election.

Election

The election will be held virtually via an online voting platform between November 1-3, 2022. Only registered NADOs deemed eligible will be able to vote. As indicated above, eligible NADOs will vote for two representatives for their respective regions.

Unless a run-off is held due to a tie result, the successful candidates will be confirmed by the scrutineer of elections on November 4 and will be announced by WADA shortly thereafter.

The Chairman of WADA’s current NADO Expert Advisory Group, Rune Andersen, said: “NADOs play a vital role in protecting clean sport. The governance reforms strengthening the NADO expert advisory group and providing for two members of the foundation board are a significant step forward. It is important that all NADOs participate in the electoral process to ensure strong and effective representation within WADA.
